Who Am I and Why Should You Listen to Me?

My name is Andrea Dickerson,
and I am known as the

I was born and raised in Georgia, and prior to 2004 I had never worked in childcare, I don’t know anyone in childcare, or ever stepped foot in a childcare program until I yielded on my destiny and started my own childcare business.

I started with a 6 - child capacity home daycare program that we started in our two-bedroom house.

At first, I was lost and all over the place. My inexperience made me make several tragic mistakes such as

  • Being constantly written up by the State because I violated simple filing and organization rules.
  • Operating my business like a revolving door due to the wrong staffing model.
  • Being too friendly with parents and missed out on a lot of business moves

I remember being so lost and overwhelmed.

I love children. I love teaching and nurturing them…

But silly and naive me didn’t expect that childcare as a business can be really difficult and complicated.

The policies are constantly changing.

They don’t give you any guidance or best practices when starting as a childcare business owner.

You cannot even ask for help from the childcare business owners in your community because they see you as “competition”.

It was really difficult. I find myself utterly exhausted most of the time.

Until one day, I got tired of the constant struggle and decided it shouldn’t be this way.

I realize that if I’m really determined to succeed in childcare, I need to step up, become a leader and figure out how to grow my business minus the overwhelming stress.

So I quit the whining, complaining, and playing the victim card.

Instead, I hit the books.

Watched leadership training videos.

Spent over $150k on coaching and training Prayed, fasted, and

Used my own wisdom to put my business in order every single day.

And my efforts paid off.

By 2009, I expanded my 6 - capacity home daycare to another location.
On the same year, we grew our enrollment from 12 to 36.

By 2010, I opened my 100 - capacity daycare center we called Akeba Academy.
I was the youngest business owner then in my area to have my childcare business in a commercial location.
By 2012, we expanded to another 100 - capacity childcare center we called The Rock.

2012 is also the year I took my business to even greater heights. 

I opened a nanny agency called Kids Care Everywhere.

I started to write my books in childcare. 

By 2021, I wrote a total of 23 books and learning programs.

In 2012 I was also awarded by my city the Early Childhood Proclamation and a day was dedicated in my name to celebrate childcare.
This is also the year that I started my coaching and consulting agency!

People sometimes ask me:

“Of all your business ventures, what is your MOST favorite one?…”

I’ve always had leadership and nurturing tendencies. These traits helped me a lot as a childcare service provider…

It proved to be very useful in childcare coaching as well! 

But here’s a little trivia:

I never planned to become a coach. 

It all started out of the blue when my friends approached me for help in growing their childcare businesses.

They had seen my success and wanted to achieve the same results.

At first, I would direct them to other established childcare coaches. Those who had been coaching professionally for quite a while already.
They’re the ones who offer professional coaching services, not me.

But my friends would always come back saying they were not able to achieve the results they wanted after taking the program/s.

Many others gave the same feedback.
This cycle repeated for about a year. Eventually, I got curious and decided to dig deeper and find out the reason why other childcare growth programs are not delivering on their promises.

It didn’t take long for me to
uncover what’s missing.
